Complete Guide to Wooden Floor Oil: The Secret to a Perfect Floor

Complete Guide to Wooden Floor Oil: The Secret to a Perfect Floor

Parquet oil is a product specifically formulated to treat and protect wooden floors. Unlike lacquer, which creates a protective film on the surface of the wood, oil penetrates the pores, nourishing it from inside and thus preserving its natural beauty.

Characteristics of Parquet Oil:

  • Penetration: Oil penetrates the wood, nourishing it, which makes it more resistant to surface damage.
  • Natural Appearance: Oil maintains the natural look of the wood, enhancing the grain and color, giving the surface an authentic and warm look.
  • Protection: It offers protection against daily wear, providing resistance to chemicals and wood parasites.
  • Maintenance: An oiled parquet is easy to maintain. In case of scratches or localized damage, the area can be retouched without having to rework the entire floor.
  • Breathability: Unlike lacquers, natural oils allow the wood to breathe. This is particularly important for maintaining the moisture balance within the wood and preventing the risk of cracks and deformation.

Types of Wood Oil:

Natural Oil:

Natural wooden floor oil based on vegetable oils that penetrates the wood, highlighting the natural grain and giving the floor a warm, natural look. It is relatively easy to apply and maintain but may require more careful maintenance compared to some harder finishes.

LIOS B100 NATURAL: Natural oil for the treatment of wooden floors with 100% solid content.

Wax-Based Oil:

A finish that combines vegetable oils with natural waxes, such as beeswax or carnauba wax. Wax-based oils for parquet combine the benefits of natural oils with the protective properties of wax. The wax creates a protective barrier on the surface of the wood, increasing resistance to water, stains, and scratches. This protective layer reduces wear and extends the life of the floor while adding a glossy or satin finish to the treated surface.

OIL BEE: Oil-wax blend containing vegetable oils, synthetic oils, and beeswax that gives the wood a natural and uniform look, providing excellent water-repellency, hardness, and a soft touch.

Colored Oil:

Colored wood oils offer a combination of protection, aesthetics, and customization that can greatly enhance the functionality of wooden floors. In addition to coloring the wood, colored oils provide extra protection against wear, moisture, and stains. The combination of pigments and oils penetrates the wood, strengthening its structure and extending its life.

LIOS BIOIL COLORATO: Natural colored oil for parquet. Its easy application allows for a smooth, uniform surface without overlaps. LIOS BIOIL Colorato is available in 18 variants, all of which can be mixed together to obtain an infinite range of colors.

How to Oil Wooden Floors

Applying oil treatment to wooden floors is very easy:

  • Clean the parquet or wooden surface. If the floor has been previously treated, sanding is recommended to remove old finishes and ensure good oil penetration.
  • Apply the oil with a cloth, brush, roller following the grain of the wood, or with the help of a single-disc machine.
  • Remove excess product with a clean cloth.
  • Allow the floor to dry for the necessary time depending on the chosen oil.

Parquet oil is an excellent choice for those who want to maintain the natural beauty of the wood, provide long-lasting protection, easy application versatility, and simpler maintenance compared to traditional lacquers.

How to Clean Oiled Wooden Floors

Oil treatment requires constant maintenance to make it more durable. Oiled parquet is slightly less resistant on the surface compared to lacquered parquet, making it more susceptible to wear and scratches.

Since oil penetrates deeply into the wood, it does not guarantee the protective and resistant layer typical of lacquered surfaces, and for this reason, specific detergents must respect the typical characteristics of this finish. Chimiver has a dedicated line of products for oiled parquet:
